Bagno Vignoni
Bagno Vignoni is a small hamlet part of the municipality of San Quirico d’Orcia, in the province of Siena, less than 20 km from Montalcino.
This village is in the heart of Tuscany, in the Natural Park of Val d’Orcia, Bagno Vignoni is one of the most famous spas in the area. These natural hot springs, which attract many people, have been used since the time of the Romans for thermal purposes.
The hot springs, located in the center of the town, arise from a large pool, which was used for health reasons by Lorenzo the Magnificent, who suffered from gout.
These Thermal hot springs revealed important therapeutic properties: including sulfurous waters, sulfate, calcium, and magnesium at a temperature of 48 °C.
Thus these waters not only have anti-inflammatory properties but are also analgesic, muscle relaxants, thinners, and anti-microbial.
A nearby place to also plunge for a swim at the Roma baths is Bagno San Filippo. I dived in and came out looking all white like a ghost, let’s not speak about my new hairdo…I looked like a veteran, nothing wrong with being one, but certainly not at 38! Yet, the experience of swimming as did the Romans back then was totally worth it!
