The Most Beautiful Piazzas In Rome
Don’t want the usual tourist trip to Rome? See the other side of the Eternal City seeing The Most Beautiful Piazzas In Rome and get to understand the Romans more on the “untouristic” side. Well, read on …
The squares or “piazza” in Italian, have played an important role in the city’s history from time immemorial. The best way to get to know the life and history of the Eternal city is through its beautiful Baroque fountains, ancient churches, imperial ruins, monuments and of course, its beautiful fountains.
Piazza’s have been and still are meeting and exchange places, squares are great places to just wind up and chill as you admire the beauty that the Eternal city has to offer. Each square has its own story and hidden treasures, each involving a different emotion.
Talk of romance, have a chill at any of the Roman piazza’s and I kid you not, if the romance wasn’t there, it’s gon find its way somehow…certainly, it’s not by default the word: “ROMANTIC” was discovered, I bet my Italian citizenship that it’s coined from Roman’s romantic way of life.
I put together for you a list of the 11 most beautiful squares in Rome and like a mother with kids, it’s not an easy task having to choose a favourite child! There are plenty of squares in the Eternal city! Read on to know the “kid” I picked, but remember, each one is special.

10. PIAZZA SANTA MARIA IN TRASTEVERE
Santa Maria in Trastevere is a great example of a lively town square. Here you come to have a chat or a drink with friends and it’s a perfect place to enjoy summer evenings. There you also find the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere – a beautiful church with medieval mosaics and frescoes – and, in the centre of the square, one of the oldest fountains in Rome. This fountain has been restored several times and it is supplied by Acqua Paola.

2. PIAZZA NAVONA
Piazza Navona is one of the most famous and most visited squares in Rome. Adorned with three fountains, the most important of which is the “four rivers” fountain created by Bernini.
1. PIAZZA SAN PIETRO
And my fav, it’s not Piazza di Spagna, where we find the famous Spanish Steps nor Piazza di Trevi ……. it’s Piazza San Pietro!
All Piazza’s in Rome are breathtaking….. Piazza San Pietro wins my heart with its view of the colonnade of 284 columns, the facade, the 140 statues of Saints and everything is just MAGICAL! …. and the Master architect / Baroque sculptor of all time being Gian Lorenzo Bernini …. yes , Michelangelo designed St. Peter’s Basilica but Gian Lorenzo Bernini designed Piazza San Pietro ( St. Peter’s Square )!
