Cascata delle Marmore, Italy.

Hola my beautiful friends, yes today we are doing another travel blog and it’s on Cascata delle Marmore in Italy. I realized that I had tons of content saved up on my phone so I thought why not put it out there. Who knows I might inspire somebody to visit the places that I visited. I generally love traveling, like my whole life has been a journey, lol, pun intended. I’m the kind of person that I just can’t sit still! And if I do, I get pretty grumpy!

A funny fact about me is that when I was still living solo (aaaaah those days were AMAZINGGGGG!!). I would leave my apartment in the morning for work and if I wasn’t working, for some unknown excursion. I’d always come back home late. All tired and fulfilled because I hated and still hate! More like loath, being indoors, aaargh, it’s not my cuppa. The bloody pandemia fucked me real good and hard you know. Aaaaanyho, I still live.

Brief story about Cascata delle Marmore:

Onto our main topic; The Cascata delle Marmore or Marmore Falls is an ancient artificial waterfall with a “total height” of 165 meters hence being the tallest (non-urban) man-made waterfall in the world, as of today. WOW! The Romans created it as a means of reducing the health risks from swampland formed by the source of the waterfall, the river Velino, a tributary of the Nera river. By “total height,” it means that the waterfall consists of three disjoined sections with the uppermost being the tallest part at around 83 meters. It is located 7.7 km from Terni, the provincial capital of the Italian region of Umbria.

Speaking of the tallest (urban) man-made waterfall in thee world, there’s China. Yes, there is some contest here. Well, like most things, they didn’t want to be left behind. When it comes to technology and innovation, trust China to come forth with a bang. To cut to the chase, did you know that China has the tallest (urban) man-made waterfall in the world (, and it’s not in nature like the usual places you’d actually find them, it’s ON A BUILDING! Now, this is a view worth seeing in this lifetime.

One of the world’s largest man-made waterfalls is actually found on a skyscraper in Guiyang, a Chinese city, called Liebian International Building. It’s is a spectacle. It is 108 meters and the “waterfall” cascades from the Liebian International Building’s top levels. I don’t know what the architect was high on but he is dope (lol, pun unintended)! So if you google they say Cascata delle Marmore is the tallest but remember it has 3 sections whilest the one in China is just one section sooooo, it’s not a contest but I think the Cascata delle Marmore is the number 1.

The source:

The water in the canals above Cascata delle Marmore is re-directed to a hydroelectric power plant hence reducing the flow in the falls. Lago di Piediluco or Piediluco Lake, which is above the falls, is used as a reservoir for the power plant and its source is a segment of the waters of the river Velino. Its flow is switched on and off to a published schedule, to cater to the needs of tourists and the power company alike. My family and I, together with other tourists, were there the moment the gates were opened to see the powerful rush of water.

We were able to hike up to the top of the falls along a path. Along the way, we got soaked up but it was all worth it. At the top affords a grandiose view of the falls and of the Nera valley below. I was able to capture the marvel (grin in the face).
